Getting out of jury duty

Today, I was reading a thread on getting out of jury duty over at Plastic. I was fairly interested in what people had to say about this subject, since I am currently on call for jury duty. While I think it’s pretty crappy I couldn’t get out of it, since I don’t even live in the same county, I still thank that serving on a jury is an important part of the democratic process.

I found it funny that one guy said that all you had to do to get out of jury duty was to be a college student, “… college students are very rarely picked as jurors; they’re unpredictable and think for themselves”. I guess he’s implying that most adults don’t think for themselves, which I tend to agree with. Maybe too many commercials have oversaturated their brains, and they can’t handle it, so they just decide to believe what they’re told.

2. Jury duty is a load of crap, hell the system of law itself is corrupt, how can jury duty be any different, you got some asshole judge making about $100, 000+ while you make anywhere from $20-40 for puttin up with all that horse shit, its crap like that that makes me want to pick up my stuff and move to Canada

3. I was on two jurys in nassau county, ny. I think thats enough for one person. I got called again, I have a bad back and I CANT SIT FOR LONG TIME. Now I’m fighting it. Fuck them, how come it seems to be the same people all the time.

4. Come on now, like theres sooo many welfare people in my town, that are just sitting home watching daytime tv. Put them to work for that welfare buck and food stamps, Currently where I live only about 22% of the residents pay taxes, the rest are unemployed/welfare or just cheating the system. Or use retired people, they have nothing better to do than sit around and wait to die! Calling on working stiffs to do jury duty is BS. Like I want to use my sick days or vaction days for that?

5. My wife was picked as a juror today for a two week fucking trial! Who will pay us the 1300.00 she will loose because she is self employed.…the judge didn’t give a fuck when she explained this!!!!!!!!! I guess she will report to the emergency room instead of for the trial complaining of chest pains caused by being chosen to serve on a two week trial!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
