Autumn in the Snowies

Autumn in the Snowies

Autumn really is one of my favorite times of the year, and it’s season that’s too short in this part of the world as the night temperatures drop very quickly. The leaves quickly turn to bright hues and then fall to the Earth in an effort to continue their lives in warmer days; they just don’t stay on the trees very long once they’ve turned to brilliant reds, yellows because of the very low night temperatures. The days here in northern Colorado have been perfect, however. We’ve seen highs in the low 70s (about 22 degrees C), which has been wonderful. I am a person who actually likes cold weather, so I welcome the change.

The picture above was taken on the way up to the top of Medicine Bow Peak in early September. Unfortunately there’s not many deciduous trees there, but the leaves on the shrubs had mostly turned shades of yellow.

  1. I have to concur that fall is the best season. I miss the leaves changing and the cooler nights. The only sign I see of it is well... the days are getting shorter.
