Watching people
I have this problem. Whenever I’m out in public, I thoroughly check people out. A while back, Bry told me to stop staring at this girl in a coffeehouse. I suppose I’m a firm believer that as humans, the animals that most interest us are other humans, an idea of Jane Jacobs.
And why not? Humans are interesting after all.
The forced closeness with others is one beautiful thing about riding the bus. In the morning, the smell of cologne permeates the air; some look wary, while others appear alive and full of vigor. Most look bored, ready to step into the midst of campus to begin a day of courses, chattting and whatever else.
I’m usually half awake, in need of a strong coffee, and I’m probably looking around too much. Seeing what others are doing. Wondering what he’s listening to on his iPod or who she’s talking to. Watching girls is particularly fun because they speak so much with their bodies. Sure, guys use body language, but girls… ahh girls just drip emotions through their actions. I guess I’ve gotten better at reading this language as I’ve grown older, because I didn’t used to see subtle eye movements. Movements that mean “sit here” or indicate the words spilling from a mouth aren’t truthful.
I suppose I’m incorrigible. I’ll likely never stop watching people. There’s just something about it that’s too appealing. But I say oh well. People are interesting, quirky creatures, so let’s check each other out.
I concur!
Andy...I just wanted you to know that you have a real natural beauty to you.
