Fall in Fort Collins I
Bikers are quite common in Fort Collins. In fact, the only other place I’ve seen more bikers is in The Netherlands (where bikes are more common than cars) and Boulder, Colorado. The bike lane system is really well-developed here, and bikes are especially prominent on campus, which is where I took this.
With the rising gas prices, I hope we see even more bikers in other towns and cities. Unfortunately, it’s just not possible in some places. When living in suburbia Delaware this summer, I became acutely aware of that. I tried to bike to work, even hauled my biked 1,800 miles across the country, but just couldn’t. The ride was long, over 5 miles, which played a role, but mostly, the trip was just too dangerous. Drivers in the northeast are jerks, and don’t pay any attention to bikers. Coupled with narrow shoulders and busy roads, I just didn’t feel safe out there on a bike.
Believe me, it’s good to be back in Colorado where it’s faster for me to bike to work than to drive, since I get to avoid stoplights and the parking is always great.
AWESOME light in that picture. Great work.
