Upcoming live music

Summer, to me, is a time of concert going. Music festivals nearly always take place during the warm summer months, and for good reasons; the light lingers longer and shines brighter, lifting spirits, creating the “right” atmosphere to do nothing but listen for the sake of listening. For anyone in the Northern Colorado region, there’s going to be some great concerts this summer.

the reminder Now famous, Feist is playing a show in Boulder on June 22nd. I’m not actually sure if I’ll be able to make it to this one. I am flying back from a nerd conference in Chicago this day, so I don’t suppose I should push it and try and make it to Boulder in time. I’ve seen Feist perform before, as an opener for Broken Social Scene; she puts on a good show. Her stage presence is a force to be reckoned with. When on-stage with 8 other people from BSS, she upstaged everyone: the spotlight didn’t have to shine on her to attract all eyes, the power of her presence alone accomplished that.

Slim Cessna’s Auto Club is playing in Denver on June 30th. Curt tipped me off to this concert; I’ve only listened to what music the band has on their website. The internet is my radio. At any rate, I’ll make the trip since Curt raves about their live-show, saying everyone should see them live.

Ainadamar Perhaps more exciting than these is that Olsavdo Golijov’s opera Ainadamar will be performed in Boulder on July 19th and 20th as part of the Colorado Music Festival. I know what you’re thinking: an opera?!? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not really an opera guy, but Golijov is one the best living composers. He’s perhaps the only “young” composer whose works I’m familiar with. If you want to hear one opera in your life, make it this one.
